Children or Pets in Today’s Social Contract

Many adults with more than enough resources and good mental health nowadays choose to have pets instead of children. With the human birthrate shrinking worldwide, especially in developed nations, economists and various pundits worry about society’s sustainability and wellbeing.

Although there are many benefits, rewards, and a great deal of satisfaction in raising and caring for other species and having some as pets, there is no comparison in the amount of benefits, rewards, and satisfaction when raising little humans to adulthood. The technology, science, medicine, music, art, infrastructure, all that we know, have, and benefit from today, it is because thus far, some of the past humans have always made the sacrifice to bring forth little humans and care for them properly. I say some humans because as we all know it, not all humans take care of their young as well as many other species do. The daily news could have at least one horror story about child abuse, but unfortunately it is no longer news these days. Without a doubt, most animals have better instincts than many humans have rationality, especially when it comes to raising their own. It is no wonder some humans feel it is more difficult raising a child today, even with all the technology, science, and medicine we have available.

Raising children is certainly not an easy task, especially if they are to be productive…
